On Christmas Eve I decided my nails were too grown out to leave as they were so I did a quick holiday job on them.

OK, San Diego is not exactly known for its rugged winters, but DANG it is COLD here lately. And the cold is apparently accompanied by Santa Ana conditions, so it is cold AND we have high fire danger. Huh?

Anyway, this blog is not about weather. I have no doubt that topic is discussed liberally around the globe and I will keep my ignorant comments to a minimum.

On to the new nails. That is afterall why I am posting.

I have made a not quite successful attempt at tangled Christmas lights, since tomorrow I plan to hang lights on the house and expect to encounter plenty of tangles and hope to keep a sense of humor about it.

The photos do not do the red polish justice. It looks like Dorothy's red slippers in real life, and since I will be spending Christmas in Kansas, that seems doubly appropriate.

I am sort of wishing I had stuck to plain, non-metallics on the lights. I am tempted to try those gel pens for fine lines next time, but on the other hand, hand-made is an important element to this hobby for me. If I wanted things to be perfect I could use decals. That is not my goal. I just enjoy the process.

While I may not improving my painting skills though, I did find the acrylics were easier tonight. Maybe I am getting better at that part. I had very little grinding to do this time. Yay!

Easing into the Christmas Spirit

OK, I normally save the snowflakes for later in the season (January) but I felt like it, so I painted them now. They will probably make a return visit later since now that I am painting my own, I change the designs more often than when I was paying for skill.

I started out with a dark blue base, and irredescent tips and flakes, but the flakes were too subtle so I went over them with white. Then I was not happy with the irredescent tips so I went over the whole thing with that color. I will be doing some touch up since I was impatient and scrambled one snowflake and smeared another. Ah well. No sense repainting tonight since I will just mess them up once I go to bed. There is always tomorrow.

Thanksgiving Day 2006

I needed to fill my nails but did not have a lot of time so I did a quick design for Thanksgiving Day, knowing I would be changing the polish the next day to begin celebrating Christmas. I try very hard to never decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving is over, but just over :)

So, here is what I wore for Thanksgiving at the Grandparents':

They aren't great, but hey, the price is right.

Last Thanksgiving I was still going to the salon to have my nails done and this is what I had painted on them:

And because I just can't take nails too seriously I convinced the technician to put one cooked turkey on my thumb. They seemed to think I was nuts, but who am I to argue with that theory.

OK, These nails are about to be replaced, but I wanted to save them here. So, for my own amusement, I am going to post pictures of the designs I paint on my nails. I will try to add previous designs as well. This set was inspired by the childhood Thanksgiving turkey created by painting the fingers each a different color and the thumb and palm brown, then stamping the design on paper and adding details to make a hand turkey. :)
